Do you have a short time, but would like to discover one of the oldest and most emblematic trails of our municipality?
We suggest our circle route leaving from and arriving at Lo Refugi in Cornudella de Montsant.
This is a route at the foot of the Montsant, perfect for families, between Boulders, Oaks and Holm Oaks, a walk of around 6Km that, without counting stops, you could do in just 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The itinerary has very little altitude change, passing through three of the principle axis of communication in the zone, the GR171, the Route of the Carthusians (Cami dels Cartoixans), and the Royal road from Cornudella to Albarca. If you are a customer of Lo Refugi, we will give you the route plan, the altitude graph, map and route description free of charge.
Leaving Lo Refugi, we head up to the highest part of the village, close to the municipal swimming pool, pick up the GR171, also called the step of the Montsant or the step of Tomaset, after about 20 minutes of incline we arrive at the crossroads between the GR171 and the Route of the Carthusians.
The Route or Cami of the Carthusians is an antique road, dating back to the 13th Century that passes around the foot of the Montsant, it was th road that linked the Monastery of Escaladei with the Royal road between Reus and Lleida, we pick up this trail heading direction Albarca until we arrive at the shrine of St Joan Petit on the surfaced road between Cornudella and the Hermitage of St Joan del Codolar, we continue to follow the Route of the Carthusians, well marked with yellow blazes.
After about 30 minutes, practically flat, we arrive at the point of descent, here we leave the Route of the Carthusians and descend the trail of Racó del Carro towards Cornudella, entering the village by passing the local landfill!
