Summer is the perfect time to discover one of nature’s most delicate and fascinating spectacles: the world of butterflies and small insects that fill the meadows and forests of Priorat. With the soft morning light, intense colors and life in full activity, we propose a unique nature photography experience designed for people passionate about capturing the beauty of small details.

The Butterflies and Insects of Montsant photographic outing, which will take place on July 4th, is an ideal activity to delve deeper into macro photography, insect photography and small fauna photography in a privileged environment. We will learn to observe, approach with respect and photograph these winged beings that tell us a lot about the health of the territory.

A unique environment for butterfly photography

The Prades and Montsant mountains form one of the most unique and isolated mountainous areas in Catalonia. This particularity creates special habitats that favor the presence of a great diversity of butterflies and insects, turning Priorat into a true paradise for the photography of insects in the wild.

During the outing we will be able to observe and, with a little patience, photograph common species such as the cabbage white, the cabbage white, the alfalfa saffron, the meadow brindle, the forest brindle, the thistle migrant, the Iberian chess, the cleopatra, the banded grasshopper, the shiny bluebird or the common bluebird.

But this territory is also a refuge for rarer species of high ecological value, some of which are vulnerable or present in few places in Catalonia, such as the ferruginous chess, the western chess, the cefalaria brocade, the crespinell bluebird or the snowy bluebird. Photographing them is a special experience and an opportunity to understand the fragility and richness of local biodiversity.

An activity with a double perspective: photography and science

The day will be guided by two great experts in the area.

On the one hand, Jordi Bru , photographer and biologist, who will provide the technical and artistic vision of nature photography and macrophotography. You will learn to work on focus, composition, light management and the patience necessary to capture insects in motion.

On the other, Toni Lluch , an active participant in the Catalan Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (CBMS), a scientific butterfly monitoring program coordinated by the Granollers Natural Sciences Museum . This project studies butterflies because they are bioindicators of ecosystem health.

This means that this outing will not only be a photographic experience, but also an immersion in the knowledge of the natural environment. We will learn to identify species, understand their behavior and appreciate the ecological importance of these small animals.

A day designed to enjoy and learn

The meeting point will be, as always, early in the morning, at LoRefugi , in Cornudella de Montsant. From there we will move to the chosen area, where we will begin a gentle walk looking for meadows and clearings ideal for observation.

We will work on key techniques for butterfly photography:
· Respectful approach to insects
·
Depth of field control
·
Precise focus on small subjects
·
Composition with vegetation and natural backgrounds
·
Capture of insects at rest and in motion

The key will be learning to read the light and the behavior of each species to anticipate the image.
